QuickBooks LearnOnline: Introduction

This is an introduction to the course; the following 15 modules are the individual lessons. The introduction will let you know which handouts are needed to be print and which computer programs you will need to open printouts with.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 1

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to get around in the program and understand some basic concepts about accounting and bookkeeping. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: understand the concepts of forms, lists and registers; get around using a variety of methods; understand how much accounting that you need to know to use this program; understand the difference between cash and accrual accounting; make changes; exit QuickBooks; and move between company files.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 2

This lesson has been designed to walk you through the steps needed to create a new company in QuickBooks. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: create a new QuickBooks company (a new data file); choose preferences for that company; create a start date and opening balances; and create income and expense accounts using the EasyStep Interview.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 3

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to work with the various lists in QuickBooks to your best advantage. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: understand the various lists in QuickBooks, including where various names belong; edit the various lists, including adding list entries; create custom fields to attach to list items for better tracking of your transactions; manage list entries, including merging, deleting, and activating them; and print a list.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 4

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to post cheques and transfers in QuickBooks and understand the bank account register. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: post a cheque whether it has already been written or not; use AutoFill and AutoRecall features to speed up your postings; transfer funds between bank accounts; view and understand the bank account register; and reconcile your bank account.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 5

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to understand balance sheet accounts other than your bank account. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: track and enter credit card transactions; reconcile your credit card statements; use and track fixed assets and depreciation; understand liability and equity accounts; and participate in the learning activities for Lessons 1 through 5.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 6

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to use sales forms in QuickBooks. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: create sales receipts for on-the-spot sales; create invoices for customers to whom you give terms; choose your sales form template to suit your business (it can be customized in Lesson 15); create new service items; use multiple price levels; report on receivables; and generate statements for your customers.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 7

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to receive customer payments and deposit them into the bank. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: receive customer payments on your invoices, whether partial payment, overpayment, pre-payment, or payment in full; deposit those funds into the bank; deposit any non-sales funds into the bank; receive cash back from a deposit; and understand how QuickBooks treats your deposit posting.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 8

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to enter bills and pay them. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: account for expenditures by entering a cheque; account for expenditures by entering a bill; pay a bill by cheque, cash or credit card; print cheques; print cheque stubs; alter numbers of printed cheques; and create payables reports.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 9

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to create reports and graphs so that you can turn your raw data into meaningful information about your company. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: create reports which turn data into information; create QuickReports - the fastest way to find almost anything; use the Find function - another quick way to find transactions; use preset reports; save your report settings by memorizing them; process many reports simultaneously; print reports, export them into Excel or e-mail them as PDF attachments; and create QuickInsight graphs.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 10

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to set up and use inventory in QuickBooks. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: turn on the inventory feature; enter products into inventory; order products and create a purchase orders report; receive inventory; manually adjust inventory; and participate in the learning activities for Lessons 6 through 10.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 11

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to track and pay sales tax. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: set up sales tax; understand tax rates and create new tax codes; use tax codes in purchase transactions; use tax codes in sales transactions; and report and remit sales taxes to various government agencies.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 12

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to run payroll in QuickBooks. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: turn payroll on; set up employee information and add new employees; use employee defaults; create pay cheques; print pay cheques and pay stubs; pay out vacation pay and handle source deductions and other payroll liabilities.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 13

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to do estimating and progress invoicing. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: turn on estimates and progress invoicing; create an estimate/quote; create multiple estimates for the same job; and create an invoice from an estimate.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 14

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to track time. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: turn on time tracking; enter single or weekly timesheet data, use the stopwatch function or the timer program; invoice customers for time entered; generate payroll from time entered; pay non-employees for their time; and generate time reports.

QuickBooks LearnOnline: Lesson 15

This lesson has been designed you to walk you through the steps needed to customize forms and create letters in QuickBooks. When you have completed this module, you will be able to: customize forms including import templates; create new templates; prepare QuickBooks letters; and create new QuickBooks letters.
